Biography of Rhonda Balsley
My name is Rhonda Balsley. I attended Texas Via de Cristo #35 in 1999 and sat at the table of St. Mary. I’ve been married to Jack Balsley for 34 years and together we worship at Grace Lutheran Church in Bandera, TX and once a month at the Torres Prison in Hondo, TX. We have one child, Elliott Balsley who is 28 years old and lives in CA and works in the film industry. In my spare time I enjoy reading and crafting. My husband and I like to travel, hike, garden and dance.
I’m currently serving on the Texas Via de Cristo board as secretary and training coordinator. I have served on approximately 20 VdC weekends and held most of the leadership positions, including weekend rector in 2004. I was youth coordinator for Grace Lutheran Church Council or 3 years and organized the annual Wild Game Dinner for 3 years. I’ve been a church choir member off and on and currently play clarinet, bongos and sing once a month in a small guitar/piano/singer ensemble. I served for two years on the ELCA Southwest Texas Synod Council and for 18 months on the synod’s Strategic Planning Task Force. I’m active in Kairos Prison Ministry weekends and have served on the Torres Unit Advisory Council for 6 years as food coordinator and secretary.
I retired in June 2018 from United Services Automobile Association (USAA) in San Antonio, TX where I worked for 33 years in the property and casualty insurance field in positions of customer service, underwriting, legal/regulatory research, procedures writing, process improvement initiatives and project management.
